Carolina Coastal Adventure

Carolina Coastal Adventure is a weekend workshop that takes place in early October open to

students in 9th and 10th grades.  Students study South Carolina's natural resources, canoe,

go on nature walks, tour cypress swamps, and more on Lake Moultrie in Berkeley County.

The SWCD will select 2 students to represent Spartanburg County at the workshop.  More

information, an application, and finalized dates will be posted soon!

Coming Soon--Bioretention Project at Lyman Lake Lodge

Bioretention is a method to control stormwater runoff (such as sediment, pesticides, oil from parking

lots, etc.) using grass buffers, sand and soils, and native plants as a filter.  In the Lyman Lake project,

stormwater from the Lodge parking lot will be filtered through the bioretention area before entering the

lake, thereby reducing the amount of polluted runoff in the water supply.  This project has finally come

to fruition through the efforts of many partners: SJWD Water District, Spartanburg County, Foothills

RC&D Council, USDA-NRCS, and the Spartanburg SWCD, along with the consulting services of Dr. Larry

Dyck and contracting services of David Nesbitt.  Work should begin in late 2010 so check back for photos

                     and updates on the project.
