Enviroscape® Watershed Model Presentations

Want to promote conservation education in your classroom or for your

civic group? Our staff can come to your school or event and conduct

presentations of our most popular educational tool, the Enviroscape®

watershed model. This model helps children and adults understand the

importance of the relationship they share with their local water bodies

and the impact that human actions have on them. The model itself gives

a visual example of what a watershed may look like and the

accompanying demonstration shows how various land uses and

non-point source pollution can affect water quality. Call our office to

arrange a presentation for your classroom or group.

Gardening in Schools Programs

Each semester, the Spartanburg SWCD and 4-H work with

Spartanburg County schools and teachers to build and maintain vegetable

gardens for students to use as an outdoor classroom experience.

For 12 weeks we will spend an hour each week maintaining our garden

and learning more about subjects important to gardening such as weather,

water, soil, nutrition, and insects. For more information on how your

class can start a gardening program please contact our office.

Envirothon Competition

Hey Educators, are you looking for a fantastic

extracurricular enrichment activity for your students? If so,

the South Carolina Envirothon competition might be for

you! A coaches workshop is held in Columbia each

February for educators or other adults interested in forming

an Envirothon team. The student competition is usually held

in May in Columbia. Teams from all over the state compete

by visiting stations designed to test their knowledge in five

areas of study, including forestry, soil, water, wildlife, and

current issues. The winning team for the state will move on

to represent South Carolina at the Canon Nation

Envirothon Competition. Please contact our office for more

information. Become and Envirothon Coach today!

Lake Moultrie in Berkeley County. This camp provides an opportunity

for students in 9th & 10th grades to spend a fun weekend on the coast

while learning about South Carolina's natural resources. The

SC Institute for Natural Resources Conservation

The Institute is a cooperative venture of the South Carolina

Department of Natural Resources, the South Carolina

Conservation Districts Foundation, the 46 Conservation Districts

of South Carolina, and Lander University.  This program

exposes young people to careers in conservation, and as a true

environmental study course, offers college scholarships and

college credit to those passing the comprehensive final

examination.  Students get a chance to experience the joys that

South Carolina’s natural resources can provide. The program is

open to current 11th and 12th grade students. The Spartanburg

SWCD sponsors two students each year to attend the Institute.
